BILLIARDS & SNOOKER - The GBSA Team Snooker league
by E.N
The End!Another season ends with mixed fortunes all round!Team Queensway was up in The Astoria R&F Club last Tuesday to play the Astoria team.
Paul Heard got off to a flying, early start with a 58 points to 21 win over Elio Monteverde; earning himself the Queensway's man-of-the-match award. In a determined struggle Kevin Dobson came from behind to beat Pepé Santos by 51 points to 30; giving Team Queensway a two frame lead!Next up Brian Garcia, for the Astoria, took on Larry Wilding in a ding-dong battle of almost epic proportions! Larry led by one point on the pink. Brian did not give up and a magnificent pink followed by the black brought the Astoria back into the game, at 59 points to 47!
Errol Bolaños followed his skipper's example and from one behind on the green he cleared up with a 25 to win 59 points to 35: two frames all and star man for the Astoria! The deciding frame was between Alain Gatt and Steve West and Steve took no chances building a slow, inexorable lead to win 67 points to 19; taking the match three frames to two for Team Queensway.
A great four points to put Team Queensway clear of the Astoria Too in the battle for fourth place!
Meanwhile, on Thursday night in St Bernard's Catholic, Social Club, the saints took on the Astoria Too; who started with a bang when Kevin Dalli beat Peter Bensadon 53 points to 31 in the opening frame.
That was it for the night as Adrian Wink beat Craig Goldwin by 65 points to 27 and then Mukesh Bakhru, the saint's man-of-the-match, beat Albert Goldwin 72 points to 19. Next up Harry Ward Daryl Cavilla 62 to 37 and finally Fernando Monteverde beat Antonio Cavilla 50 points to 38. A very welcome five points for the saints and the Astoria Too just three points behind Team Queensway in the fight for fourth!

The GBSA Memorial Trophy Final.
The final of this year's Memorial Trophy tournament featured barentertainment.net and St Bernard's Club. The game was played last Friday, starting at 8pm, in The Crucible.
The first frame of billiards pitched Yewhung Chin against Mukesh Bakhru in a repeat of last week's semi-final in 'The Juan Duran'. This time Mukesh got his revenge and won the frame 100 to 56; giving the saint's a first lead. Francis Becerra met Adrian Wink in the first frame of snooker and Adrian wishes he hadn't. A peculiar 'miss' resulted in Adrian gifting Francis 24 points; a very generous gesture which Adrian never recovered from. Francis went on to win the frame 66 points to 17; to level the frame score. Next up Nicky Correa took on Peter Bensadon and after an early 'safe' start Nicky potted her way to a 59 points to 47 win; despite Peter's best efforts! Two frames to one for the entertainers!
The fourth frame and the second billiards saw Sean Galligan against Fernando Monteverde and what a feast of billiards we had served up! Both players played some 'real' billiards shots and the lead see-sawed; until Sean got away, slightly, and won by 100 points to 91! Effectively winning The Cup!The doubles frame featured Lawrence Sisarello and Charlie Lara against Harry Ward and Mukesh Bakhru; with pride at stake. Harry and Mukesh took the frame 55 points to 47 but barentertainment.net won the cup by three frames to two! Well played one and all!
