NEVER SAY NEVER…
Miss Gibraltar’s meteoric rise to the elite of the twenty finalists was already a champagne popper. Then the explosion of excitement as many of us heard with disbelief and amazement that she was proclaimed winner. Wow!
For years, probably like many small countries, we have thought the success was just being there, standing with the beauties of the world.
It is often said we punch above our weight, but this weekend Gibraltar broke away from that centuries old image of fortress and controversy and won over the world with charm.
Billions all over the world, not least the press in India which has produced several Miss Worlds, had Gibraltar on their lips as Kaiane won with a relaxed and natural charm which young women the world over would give anything for. Over a million women a year apply to enter these national competitions.
Of course Gibraltar is proud, but more than that it has a positive window of opportunity to profile itself with this exceptional ambassador.
This year we have all won the lottery but it is Kaiane’s personal triumph that bought the winning ticket.
She deserves a dress by Galliano, a ballad by Hammond and a hero’s reception when she returns.
A standing ovation….
