Not only do we produce a Miss World, but, remember we are 30,000, what an ability to rise to the occasion. Gibraltar did itself proud yesterday and the thanks today also have to go to the people of Gibraltar and the amazing quick organisation of her reception at every level.

Our Parliament that met yesterday morning has often heard statements that unity is not possible.

What a happy occasion to see all Gibraltar out in the streets – and not a thought of politics. Of course we can have unity!

Everyone who saw Kaiane in the Miss Gibraltar contest knew she was a stunner, but her triumph has been the fruit of a natural sincerity as well as beauty. Yesterday she reminded Gibraltar that it is a great community as well as a strong political entity. She has not just put us on the world map, but has done so in a way that would show any political controversy for what it would be –small mindedness.

She will inspire young Gibraltarians to realise that they too have a unique platform from which to achieve their dreams.
