TRIBUNAL JUDGE ONE OF TWO APPEAL COURT JUDGES APPOINTED

Two UK judges have been appointed to sit as Justices of Appeal in the Court of Appeal of Gibraltar, bringing the total number to five.

One of the new appointments is Sir Jonathan Parker, who together with two other UK judges conducted the 2008 disciplinary tribunal into the behaviour of former Chief Justice Derek Schofield.

The tribunal’s findings were a key element of a lengthy process that ultimately resulted in Mr Justice Schofield being found unfit for the post and sacked.

The second judge appointed alongside Sir Jonathan is Sir Simon Tockey.

Both Sir Jonathan and Sir Simon were appointed for a five year period by the Governor, who was acting on the advice of the Judicial Services Commission.
