Tokyo Marathon 2010 - in aid of Cancer Research UK (Gibraltar) Branch

This Sunday friends Gareth Latin and Jonathan Ferrary will be undertaking the gruelling task of running the Tokyo Marathon. They hope to complete the 42.2km race in a time of 4 ½ hours, and have been preparing and training since November.

Having always wanted to run a marathon they decided to tie it in with raising money for a good cause, and decided on Cancer Research UK which is a charity close to their heart. All funds raised are going to the charity as the trip is being funded by them personally.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Their research has been at the heart of the progress that has seen survival rates for cancer double in the last 30 years. Their groundbreaking work has saved millions of lives, but too many lives are still devastated by cancer. Their work is funded entirely by the public and therefore fundraising undertaken by individuals such as Gareth and Jonathan is crucial to their work continuing.

Gareth and Jonathan have so far raised money through 2 quiz nights, and on Friday 19th February will be hosting a charity Bingo night at the Varyl Begg Social Club in order to raise more funds. On the night there will be a raffle and they have been asking local firms to donate gifts.

They have also set up a website through which anyone wanting to, can donate to this worthy cause with the funds going directly to Cancer Research UK: www.justgiving.com/Gareth-Latin
