BREAKING NEWS:ATLANTIC ROW ATTEMPT ABORTED

After a night of battling severe weather conditions in the Strait, rowers

Sigurd Haveland and  Julian Bellido were forced to abandon their attempt

to Challenge the Atlantic crossing.

After leaving the shelter of the Spanish mainland and finding themselves facing

a strong adverse current they were forced towards Ceuta, where they put out sea anchors.

At  6.40 am they made their first call to Gib. - based Project Director Liam

Yeats that they were in trouble and 45 minutes later that they were being driven

onto the Rocks. They decided to call upon the Spanish rescue services who

responded immediately and they were towed into Ceuta harbour, where they are in

good health.

"That's a great relief" said Liam Yeats.

"The Gib. Port Authorities , who have been very supportive, were informed and they will

be sending a launch to bring Sigurd and Julian back to the Rock over the weekend."
