FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

There’s a wee problem in Gibraltar. Year after year, decade after decade the official bathing season does not start until a few weeks after the public has voted with its feet and got to the beach.

In turn that sets of justified complaints that there is no infrastructure for them – not least an absence of toilets.

For many Gibraltarians the beach remains not only a tradition but a much looked forward to escape from the confines of relatively small homes. Add to that there are not many other places to go unless one crosses the border. Sandy Bay is ‘gone’ but the sun comes round regardless, sending people in search of the sea and sand.

On the subject of toilets the Upper Rock is a real problem given the number of tourist sites. Apart from the occasional Barbary Partridge, tourists are themselves now also darting in and out of the bushes.

When will the penny drop……?
