TWO MEN FOUND DEAD IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS
Police are investigating two separate sudden deaths discovered during the course of the weekend.
In the first case, a local man in his early 40s was found in a flat in Varyl Begg Estate after residents complained of a bad smell.
The man, who was not named, had been dead for some time and his body had begun to decompose. His identity was confirmed thanks to markings and tattoos on his body.
The Coroner has opened an investigation and a forensics pathologist will travel to Gibraltar to conduct an autopsy.
However at this early stage there are no suspicious circumstances.
“There are no obvious signs of foul play, though all avenues remain open,” a police spokesman said.
SECOND DEATH
In the second case, the body of a 39-year old man was discovered in a house in the Upper Town area late on Saturday.
Police would not confirm any details but the Chronicle understands the man was found hanged.
He was said to be originally from the UK but a long-time resident of Gibraltar.
The Coroner has opened an investigation and an autopsy will be carried out.
As in the first case, a police spokesman said there were no obvious signs of foul play but that nothing could be ruled out at this early stage in the investigation.
