Former Governor dies

Former Gibraltar Governor Admiral Sir David Williams GCB has died. To mark his passing the Convent flag is flying at half-mast and will remain at half-mast until the funeral later this week.

Solomon “Momy” Levy long-time friend of Sir David, spoke of his death, he said; “On Tuesday Gibraltar heard the sad news that Admiral Sir David Williams had died. Sir David was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, as Governor he performed his duties in an impeccable manner.

“I remember how when he used to attend a social function, as he came into the room there was absolute silence and one could literally hear a pin drop, what a personality he had and always a kind word to everyone.”

Mr Levy also added: “He had the great fortune of having a unique wife, Lady Pipa Williams, founder in Gibraltar of the Cancer Relief Society. Until this day, I have the honour and privilege of being in touch with her, what a lady and what a kind loving wife until the last moment of Sir David’s death.”

Mr Levy said: “We send our condolences to Lady Williams and her son Steven and all the family, the United Kingdom has lost an irreplaceable Admiral.”
