COSTA’S DARING PORTRAIT

Captain Guy Robinson of HMS Daring was presented a picture by Minister Neil Costa on behalf of the Chief Minister, at a small ceremony yesterday. HMS Daring, the first of the new Type-45 destroyers, is stopping in Gibraltar on its return to the UK after a seven month deployment around the Middle East. The vessel last called into Gibraltar in January. “Royal Navy ships have been coming to Gibraltar for over three hundred years but we are as pleased to see them today as we have ever been.” said the Minister. Adding: “When HMS Daring was here at the beginning of the year, the Commanding Officer invited the Chief Minister to tour the ship. He learned that the Countess of Wessex had originally launched the ship in 2006 so this was a perfect link between the ship and the forthcoming visit of the Earl and Countess of Wessex. He commissioned Vin Mifsud to paint this picture and the Countess graciously agreed to sign it during the Royal visit.” Pic: Johnny Bugeja
