Summer placements for students

This year the Government has found job placements for 319 students who come home for the summer from university in the United Kingdom.

The students have now started work and will continue until the end of the summer. Where possible, students have been given placements in departments which are relevant to their course of study.

Currently four students studying Environmental Health have been placed with the Environmental Agency, five students taking education-related courses have been placed with the Department of Education and five students studying Biomedical Science have been placed with the Pathology Department of the GHA.

Given the very high uptake on the Government’s summer placements scheme, it has not been possible to place all students within their area of study.  However, the Government have said that they are confident that the experience will nonetheless prove interesting and useful for all the participants in the scheme, no matter where they have been placed.

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Joseph Garcia said: “We are pleased to have been able to assist the students in this way. We hope that the experience they gain during the summer months will help them achieve even greater success when they return to their universities and colleges.”
