CM expects more independent GBC

GBC will be much more independent from Government if it is entirely self-sufficient and not dependent on Government for a subvention, Fabian Picardo, Chief Minister, has told Parliament.

Mr Picardo said that the model until now has been that the Board of GBC regulated all matters relating to GBC and was appointed by the Governor in effect on the advice of the Chief Minister.

“Now, the broadcasting Bill will allow for independent regulation of all broadcasters by the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority and the appointment of the Board will be by the Chief Minister in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition and thereafter with the Governor given his Constitutional responsibilities for internal security,” he said.
