The newly crowned Miss Gibraltar 2013, Maroua Kharbouch, along with her first and second princesses Jamielee Randall and Stacey Britto, were presented with their cheques yesterday, at the City Hall.

The presentation was carried out by Minister for Culture Steven Linares who began by congratulating Miss Gibraltar and wished her all the best over the next year.

“We are always behind you. Good luck in all you do,” he said.

The Minister then proceeded to officially hand over the prize money to this year’s winners.

The efforts of Miss Gibraltar 2012 (who was also present), were recognised by the Minister, who thanked Jessica Baldachino and said: “Jessica has done us very proud and represented us admirably.” The final part of her prize money, was then presented. A cheque for £1,000.

This year’s Miss Gibraltar will similarly receive her second cheque at the end of her reign next summer. Until then she has received a clothing allowance, enabling her to compete in the Miss World finals. The Minister concluded the presentation by giving his final words of encouragement and wishing good luck to Maroua Kharbouch before she competes in the pageant taking place this September in Indonesia.
