Governor shares leadership experience with GDP officers

Inspectors, Sergeants and Defence Guard Service supervisors from the Gibraltar Defence Police have been participating in a series of training sessions designed to improve their leadership skills.

This stems from the Organisational Development Review was carried out in 2017. One of the key recommendations was for the delivery of further leadership and management training to managers within the Force.

Those undergoing training were last week joined by members of the GDP Senior Management Team to hear the Governor, Lieutenant General Edward Davis, speak about his own experiences and views on leadership, gained through a successful military career serving in numerous operational roles as well as more recently as the Governor of Gibraltar.

During an address to the officers Lt Gen Davis shared his thoughts regarding the importance of good leadership with a key theme being the need for humility as a leader.

Having participated in the session with colleagues, GDP’s Chief Police Officer Chief Superintendent Rob Allen said: “I am extremely grateful to His Excellency for taking time out to share his experiences with the team.”

“He has had a very interesting career and brings a level of credibility that GDP officers will find inspirational and be able to relate to as police and security leaders.”

“With an almost constant need for change it is essential that our officers gain the widest possible perspective to hone their leadership skills.”

“This will enable them to carry out their duties effectively and successfully lead the force through this change and into the future. With the challenges that face the GDP it is essential that we equip our leaders with the necessary skills to do the job effectively. Mark Little has designed and is delivering a bespoke training package for the Force that is already demonstrating its worth.”
