Brexit group continues planning for a hard exit

The Chief Secretary chaired a meeting of the Brexit Executive Group at No.6 Convent Place last Friday morning, as planning for a hard Brexit continues.

The aim of the meeting was to ensure that all possible contingency measures are planned and ready in the event of a no deal Brexit.

Darren Grech used the meeting to reiterate the Gibraltar Government’s call to stakeholders in Gibraltar to make their own preparations for such an eventuality.

The meeting came against the backdrop of the contest to select the new leader of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister of the UK.

There are two remaining candidates in the race, Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson, and the winner will be selected by a postal ballot of around 160,000 Conservative Party members.

The new leader will be announced at around 11am Gibraltar time on Tuesday.
