Europa FC President explains how betting investigation has affected his club

The suspension of four Europa FC players rocked Gibraltar football last week, but moreso the club itself as after months of waiting for a decision the GFA’s independent disciplinary panel issued bans to the four players. Two of which received five years and seven year bans from all football related activity.
Merino, Roldan, Belfortti and Moya where five of the first players provisionally suspended earlier in the season leaving Europa FC with a void in their squad which they have had to fill with reserve and Under 23 players whilst awaiting for the hearings to take place. The club, somehow, maintaining their momentum as they challenged for the title.
Having remained silent throughout the process Europa FC’s board of directors have come against a solid wall of criticism as many questioned their reasons for their silence throughout the process. Initially indicating that they were unwilling to comment “due to the sensitivities” of the issues at hand, Club owner and President Peter Cabezutto this week accepted an invitation to talk about the past few months and how the betting investigation had affected his club...
