Dr Jonathan Spencer has succeeded John Tattersall as Board Chairman of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (‘GFSC’).
Mr Tattersall, has recently come to the end of his term as Chair, having served six years as a Board Member, with the latter two years as Chairman. He has been succeeded by Dr Spencer who has been a member of the GFSC since 2011 and has extensive experience in regulation, the GFSC announced yesterday.
Samantha Barrass, GFSC CEO, said: “I would like to thank John for his hard work and contribution to the GFSC Board as Chairman and would also like to congratulate Jonathan on his appointment.”
Dr Spencer said: “I am greatly honoured to have been elected Chair of the GFSC, and am very much looking forward to working with my fellow Board Members, the staff of the Commission and the Government of Gibraltar over the coming period.”
“We shall continue to seek to ensure that Gibraltar retains its reputation as a clean, well-regulated and profitable place to do business in the financial services sector. We face an exciting period ahead with the introduction and implementation of major new legislation which will improve the work of the Commission and give the industry a more solid and certain basis on which to operate,” he added.
Mr Tattersall also commented: “I am very proud of what has been achieved by Samantha Barrass and her team over the last two years; although I am sad to have come to the end of my term as Chair, I know that oversight of the Commission is in good hands.”
