Yesterday’s unprecedented message from Gibraltar’s current and past political leaders should not be ignored.

Gibraltar has only one opportunity to make its voice heard and that is on June 23. We should turn out in large numbers and signal our commitment to the EU.

The Chronicle’s face-to-face poll suggests this community will heed the call, but there must be no complacency because the stakes are too high. Now is the time to check you are registered and able to vote.

The nature of referendums means that even a small number of votes can make a difference. But irrespective of that and whatever the outcome, Gibraltar must send a clear message.

If there is a British exit from the EU, there must be no doubt as to which side of the fence Gibraltar was on. A single voice on June 23 will be a powerful reminder to the British Government that it must stand firmly by Gibraltar and its people, whether inside or outside the EU.

It is not often that our political leaders agree on anything.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia and Opposition leader Daniel Feetham spoke with one voice. They were joined by past Chief Ministers Sir Peter Caruana, Joe Bossano and Adolfo Canepa.

Their message is echoed by business and community leaders across Gibraltar.

Faced with the uncertainty of a Brexit, the consensus is that a vote to remain in the EU is the best option for Gibraltar and the UK alike.

Listen to the arguments carefully, and act accordingly.
