Great view, but pity about the plants

Dozens of flowering plants in Casemates were trampled and damaged during the recent Festival of Lights by people who stood on planters to get a better view.

This resulted in such an extensive damage to the plants growing within that they all had to be chopped down to soil level.

“They were severely damaged and trampled on and had to be pruned by our appointed contractor,” the Government told the Chronicle.

“Although this particular plant species will regenerate nicely, it will take time for it to do so and therefore we will be planting another species to avoid the planters being bare.”
