Newcastle Building Society Savers raised over £21,000 for Cancer Relief Gibraltar

Savers with the Gibraltar branch of Newcastle Building Society have helped raise more than £21,000 for Cancer Relief Gibraltar. As part of its commitment to supporting the communities in which it operates, the Society set up a special savings account from which it committed to pay an equivalent 0.1% of the total balance to the charity during 2016. Maria Bruno and Maria Fernandez from the Society's Main Street branch team presented a cheque for £21,695.34 when they visited the Cancer Relief headquarters. While there they were also given a guided tour of the facilities available free of charge to cancer patients and their families.

Rowena Wallace at Cancer Relief Gibraltar, said they were absolutely delighted with the huge amount Newcastle Building Society savers had raised for the charity.

"We are almost entirely funded by charitable donations, so all donors can be assured that the money raised will go directly to funding all services currently offered from the Centre,” she said.

"We are currently supporting around 70 families affected by cancer but we couldn’t exist without your generosity and support - for this, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts."

Meanwhile Steve Maloney, senior operations manager at Newcastle Building Society's Gibraltar branch, said Cancer Relief Gibraltar carried out a huge amount of invaluable work for families throughout the community.

“We're thrilled to have been able to raise such a terrific amount in its name with the help of our customers. Seeing at first-hand how the charity is set up to deliver all its services was a great experience for our team members, and reaffirmed just how worthy the charity is of our support, as well as what a wonderful job all the staff there do in support of people who are often facing extremely challenging situations.”

He added that they were continuing to raise money for Cancer Relief Gibraltar through their charity-linked savings account, and look forward to being able to provide further support in the future.
