Nina Danino at Tate Modern

A series of screenings and discussions dedicated to the women filmmakers of the London Film-makers’ Co-op, LFMC, opens this coming weekend at the Tate Modern. One of the main contributors is Gibraltarian filmmaker Nina Danino who will show two of her films and will also participate in a discussion panel. The event is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the London Film-makers’ Co-op entitled ‘From reel to real: women, feminism and the London film-makers’ co-operative’. It will be held at the Tate Modern, Starr Cinema starting on Friday and ending on Sunday.

This forms part of the Tate Modern ‘Counter-Histories’ series with a programme dedicated to a rarely seen but remarkable ensemble of films – both single screen and expanded – made by women filmmakers since the 1970s in the context of the artist-led, cooperative organisation.

The films were all produced against a backdrop of growing feminist consciousness, and built on the methods, processes and ethos associated with the Co-op in addressing the world outside of the projection room.

Ms Danino will be showing her films ‘FirstMemory’ and ‘Now I am yours’.

Speaking from London, Ms Danino, says it is great to be part of this programme.
