Trust acknowledges new tourism opportunities World Heritage Status will bring
Achieving UNESCO World Heritage status for the Gorham’s Cave Complex is “not only the successful culmination of years of meticulous work and preparation but a new chapter in heritage tourism in Gibraltar” the Gibraltar Heritage Trust said.
Congratulating the Gibraltar Museum and in particular Professor Clive Finlayson, Dr Geraldine Finlayson, Dr Sue Davies and the many other members of the museum staff, members of the steering committee and the Government, the Trust described the achievement as an enormous success.
It also acknowledges the opportunity this represents for Gibraltar as a whole.
“Not only to reap the benefits of such a status for the site and our Neanderthal heritage but for Gibraltar to re-examine its great heritage product in all its forms as well as how best to preserve it and show case it to the world in a professional, holistic and affordable manner,” he said in a statement.
The Trust also pointed out that the future management of this World Heritage Site would bring its own challenges and would no doubt have a very positive knock on effect on the Rock’s national heritage and the economic benefits for the whole of Gibraltar that should ensue.
