Arrests expose scale of La Línea drug trade
Spanish police seized nearly five tonnes of cannabis resin in a series of raids carried out in La Línea in recent days.
Two residents of La Línea, a 39 and 37 year old, were arrested and five stolen vehicles were recovered during the raids.
The latest raids bring the total amount of cannabis resin seized by the Policia Nacional in La Línea and its environs in the year to date to 15 tonnes. That figure does not include drugs seized by other agencies.
Some 50 people have also been arrested this year and around 60 vehicles seized, many of them believed to be stolen.
The police in La Línea are not just focusing on seizing drugs and associated transport vehicles but also on the detection of properties that are being used to store the drug before distribution.
The clampdown in the area follows concerns raised by La Línea residents where they stated they felt that the area was being flooded with drugs.
