Ball set to track the weather for Team Britannia
Local meteorologist, Steph Ball, has won the contract to provide weather services to Team Britannia for its round the world race departing Gibraltar this October.
Mrs Ball is well known on the Rock for her ability to predict the weather and her passion for cloud formations – she also provides the weather for the Chronicle daily. Although she has Twitter followers from all over the world the new contract will likely see her go global.
She feels “nervous but excited” about the task of assisting ocean legend Alan Priddy and the rest of Team Britannia on its record breaking attempt.
The meteorologist, whose company MeteoGib recently celebrated its first anniversary, will be the “weather eyes all through the race” for a vessel that will be moving at a greater speed than normal boats.
She will provide the team with updates every 24 hours for its next 500 nautical miles and will also be on standby providing information should the team encounter a storm, cyclone or hurricane.
Mr Priddy, the Captain of Team Britannia, said: “Stephanie is not only a hugely popular presenter and figure in Gibraltar, but also a top meteorologist who will provide real time updates on emerging weather fronts and systems, which could have a massive bearing on our speed and safety.”
