The Gibraltar Government discussed concerns over the use of agency workers in the public sector during a cabinet meeting yesterday morning.

The Cabinet completed a preliminary examination of the issue and requested further information in order to assist with its deliberations.

Ministers also requested more statistical data in order in obtain a clear representation of the position.

The Cabinet will resume its discussion on this issue this morning.

Concern about the use of agency workers has long been raised by unions and the Opposition, and was one of the key issues that prompted last week’s demonstration.

“This was an issue that the Chief Minister had already committed to tackle in his May Day speech,” No.6 Convent Place said in a statement yesterday.

“The truth is that the intensive demands of the Brexit agenda have served to delay the in-depth consideration of this matter.”
