Cancer Relief Centre opens Tranquility Garden

The Cancer Relief Centre has formally opened its ‘Tranquillity Gardens’ after three years of work and £27,000 of donations.

The Gardens were sponsored by the Parasol Foundation Trust and GVC who donated £21,000 and £6,000 respectively.

Cancer Relief Centre nurse manager Grainne McKenna officially opened the Tranquillity Gardens alongside Ruth Parasol from the Parasol Foundation Trust and the Minister for Education Dr John Cortes.

Over the past three years volunteers have helped build the Tranquillity Gardens where it is hoped those at the Cancer Relief Centre will use the space to relax.

“This is absolutely amazing,” said Ms McKenna.

“It means so much, we have got people here who have a very personal attachment to the Gardens, a lot of people who volunteers did so in memory of someone who they lost.”

“We are absolutely delighted that we have this amazing garden available and open for people to enjoy and use.”

Ms McKenna added that the Gardens creates an extra place for those who want a quiet time of reflection.

“This is so important for those who want a moment to themselves and some quite time, and now they have a place to go,” Ms McKenna said.

“Sometimes you can get overwhelmed and this is a place for some peace and quiet.”

The Cancer Relief Centre has plans on using the Garden for Tai Chi classes and yoga.

“We want to use this as a place of wellbeing as well as relaxation and remembrance,” she said.
