The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo has written to the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern to express the condolences of the Government and People of Gibraltar to New Zealand “in the face of the barbaric attacks perpetrated in Christchurch”.

The letter reads:
Please accept the sincere condolences of Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar and the People of Gibraltar in the face of the barbaric attacks perpetrated in Christchurch yesterday.

These acts are no more and no less than senseless murders. There can be no satisfactory rationalization of such cowardly killing.

Our thoughts and sympathy are with you and all the people of Christchurch and New Zealand and particularly its Muslim Community, in the aftermath of this assault on the culture, values, and way of life that we all hold dear.

Gibraltar, its people and Government, stand with you in unity and solidarity at this painful time.
