Emotional end to this year’s ‘Stay and Play’ events

The Stay and Play programme came to an emotional end with yesterday’s final presentation marking the close of the summer line-up.

A few tears were shed at the presentation where children and parents watched a photo montage of the summer activities.

The children have spent the past seven weeks enjoying sports geared towards the Special Olympics.

They have taken part in water sports, soft play, swimming, athletics, football and botcher – a target game similar to pentaque.

The Stay and Play programme is for children with disabilities and ensures each child is looked after on a one-to-one basis.

Minister for Sport Steven Linares alongside NatWest Regional Head for Gibraltar Amanda Eccleston, who assumed her position this month, presented the children with their medals. GSLA CEO Reagan Lima also attended the event.

“It is quite emotional really,” said Sports Development and Training Officer Michelle Turner.
