ERG launches report on ‘sensitive’ issues

Complex and sensitive issues that tend to hit a ‘very solid wall of silence’ in Gibraltar are the subject of a report launched by the Equality Rights Group yesterday.

The primary aim of the Group is to see controversial issues raised and discussed, not avoided. Hence, issues such as abortion, sexual health, the right to die, drugs and others, which the ESG believe should be the subject of debate in the community, feature heavily.

“It is always a sign that something is amiss when you smack up against a very solid wall of silence on any issue,” the report states and calls for open and serious discussion of these topics.

“We dare to address issues that others consider sensitive…we place them for discussion, for pleading, for choice. In other words we make an offering to dialogue and to progress,” Felix Alvarez, Chairman of the ERG, said at a press conference.
