Gibraltar’s annual international face and body painting festival is taking place this weekend in both the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery and on Casemates. The theme for the fourth edition of the festival is childhood; which includes aspects such as memories, costume play and pop culture.

Vice president of the Gibraltar Body Painting Association Davinia Cano said: “Artists from all over the world had started to arrive on the Rock this week in time for the first day of the festival (yesterday), with many more arriving throughout the weekend.”

Yesterday was demonstration day where artists designed and painted on their model, followed by a walk-about in Casemates. In addition, international artist Jennifer Parker held her “flower fairies” workshop that showed budding artists how to design and paint something different.

The gallery is open from 2pm today and the public are welcome to go and see the artists create on their live canvases.

Today a “people’s choice award” is also being held, this award gives all participants a chance to win a trophy based on the overall best body paint of the day. The winning design is selected for a wide range of reasons, such as paint scheme, skill set and designs used, and will be chosen by an anonymous judge.

This evening international artist Pashur will be holding his “torso” workshops, which will show how to design and paint on any torso. The Los Angeles based artist is well known in the body painting industry and was responsible for January’s edition of the Rolling Stone magazine, where he painted lyrics on the band ‘Five Seconds of Summer’.
