Gib ladies unable to make it past Malta
The Gibraltar women's senior basketball team faced another defeat, this time at the hands of Malta. In a crucial match which would decide if they could reach the later phases of the tournament Gibraltar lost 71-32.
Relying heavily on the solo performances of Perez and Benitez who were rotated by Uruguayan head coach Marcelo Zubiran throughout the final stages of the third period and the final period Gibraltar saw the gap increase further. Unable to gather more than ten points during anyone of the four quarters.
Gibraltar now face playing Cyprus to play for the 5-8th placement.
Significantly it was Courtney Ferrer who was given top performer for Gibraltar by FIBA with Joelle Moreno the highest scorer with eleven points. She also recorded the most rebounds won for Gibraltar with six to her name along with the most steals, four. Kiara Sene who did not appear in the final quarter had the most assists with two to her name. Courtney Ferrer scored four points, had five rebounds to her name, one assist and one steal.
