GMWS supports Mental Health Week and welcomes new Mental Health Act
Gibraltar Mental Welfare Society is supporting Mental Health Week by welcoming the new Mental Health Act which the group feels goes a long way towards establishing procedures. In a statement however, it urges Government to work on the Mental Capacity Act as a matter of priority.
“This will ensure that legally, patients and their families are protected. Self-advocacy and advocacy, need to be recognised as primordial in the development of relationships that are nurturing between service users and providers, and service users and their family and friends,” the group emphasises in statement.
It insists it will continue to campaign on a number of issues, and during the week highlights some of the more pressing ones relating to this year's Mental Health Awareness Week theme which is “Relationships”.
“Relationships can only be maintained and developed if the proper resources are available and these include financial support, supported housing, supported employment and regular and uncomplicated access to talking therapies,” adds the statement.
