HMS Duncan to arrive on the Rock

The Russian Task Group, which includes the sole Russian aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, the nuclear powered Kirov Class Battlecruiser, Pyotr Velikiy and two Udaloy Class Destroyers, Vice Admiral Kulakov and Severomorsk sailed from Russia on Saturday 15 October to join the Russian anti-Daesh military operations in Syria.

Following a seven month deployment as Flagship of NATO’s task group in the Black Sea and Mediterranean, HMS Duncan will arrive in Gibraltar tomorrow for a routine engagement visit.

HMS Duncan, the sixth and final Type 45 destroyer, has been the Flagship to a multinational, integrated maritime force. The force is made up of vessels from various allied nations, training and operating together as a single team.

The force is permanently available to NATO to perform a wide range of tasks.

HMS Duncan has been taking part in a number of operations and exercises, maritime security patrols and regional engagement in the Southern European waters and surrounding areas.

Following her visit to Gibraltar, she will return to her homeport in Portsmouth where there will be an opportunity for the Ship’s Company to take some leave.
