Juvenile remanded over alleged assault on ‘snitch’

A local juvenile charged with possession of an offensive weapon and assault occasioning actual bodily harm was remanded in custody yesterday.

The teenager pleaded not guilty to both charges arising from an alleged incident last May.

The Magistrates’ Court heard how the offensive weapon was a scaffolding pole used in an assault.

Prosecutor Carl Ramagge told the court the complainant was followed by the teenager who allegedly used a scaffolding pole in the attack and then continued to kick and punch.

It is alleged that after the incident the juvenile said: “This is what is done to snitches.”

The court heard how the complainant was left with a black eye, swollen upper lip and bruises.

Stipendiary Magistrate Charles Pitto said he was mindful of the juvenile’s record and remanded the teen in custody.

The case was adjourned until August 16.
