Local Unite officials press Corbyn on Brexit

Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn has told local Unite representatives that Gibraltar must not be used as a bargaining tool in Brexit negotiations.

Mr Corbyn met with the delegates from Unite the Union Gibraltar at the Brighton Centre in the UK during a week-long policy conference.

Unite representatives Marilyn Bramble, Hedley Trico and Wendy Clouter attended the conference and presented Mr Corbyn with a letter reflecting the issues Gibraltar faces and how the Rock voted to remain within the EU.

The letter addressed to Mr Corbyn included requests for his commitment to ensure in the event of a Brexit, Gibraltar could retain its freedom of movement.

He was also asked to safeguard the Rock’s interests if Spain were to attempt to exclude Gibraltar from any deals between the UK and EU.

Ms Bramble told the Chronicle Mr Corbyn said there would be no talks on Gibraltar without the Rock’s involvement and that in any dealings regarding Brexit Gibraltar’s interests would be at the forefront.
