In addition to pupils from a number of school participating, a former RAF Gib veteran John Bautista, accompanied by his daughter Jeanette Bruzon took part and assisted him around the track with the RAF100 Baton

As the Royal Air Force celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, RAF Gibraltar yesterday paid tribute to a 90-year old veteran who was born on the Rock and served here for five years.

John Bautista joined Wing Commander John Kane, the Station Commander at RAF Gibraltar, local students and serving RAF personnel on a lap of Victoria Stadium carrying the RAF100 baton.

Mr Bautista proudly carried the baton as he completed the lap accompanied too by his daughter Jeanette Bruzon.

“I am honoured, privileged and I feel it is very fitting as I was once stationed here at RAF Gibraltar,” Mr Bautista said.

“To be a civilian now representing the RAF at this event is wonderful.”

The track event formed part of the RAF Centenary events planned by RAF Gibraltar throughout the year.
