Man charged with attempted rape
A man accused of breaking into a woman’s home and attempting to rape her has been remanded in custody following a court appearance yesterday morning.
Karim Rudge, 27, of no fixed abode, faces charges of attempted rape, trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
This follows an incident on Friday evening when uniformed officers supported by the Dog Section responded to a report of an aggravated burglary at a local residence and challenged and arrested Rudge.
Rudge was interviewed and subsequently charged with the three offences. He was kept in police custody over the weekend before being taken to the Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
At the very brief court appearance Elliott Phillips, representing Rudge, confirmed that his client was not seeking bail.
The Lay Bench told Rudge: “Due to the severity of the charges you are to be remanded in custody.”
The case was sent up to the Supreme Court and Rudge will appear there on April 22.
