Miss Gibraltar 2016 is Kayley Mifsud

Kayley Mifsud, 24, is this year’s Miss Gibraltar, becoming the 54th pageant winner to wear the crown. It was an emotional moment for Kayley, a Health and Safety co-ordinator, who said she “never thought this would happen”, thanking family and friends during her first interview on stage as Miss Gibraltar 2016.

The announcement was met by exploding confetti canons and audience cheers at the John Mackintosh Hall Theatre when she took to the catwalk as the new reigning Miss Gibraltar alongside her Princesses.

Hannah Bado, Miss Gibraltar 2015, passed on the crown on the incumbent pageant queen, marking the end of her reign.

Joseanne Bear was 1st Princess and won the Gibraltar Chronicle prize for best interview. Aisha Benyahya was this year’s 2nd Princess and also won Miss Photogenic.

This year’s pageant raised £15,000 for the Calpe House Trust. Much of it was raised by the Miss Gibraltar charity single ‘Our Home’ performed at the pageant by both the contestants and Afterhours with Tim Garcia.

The John Mackintosh Hall was transferred by LED screen projections London Palladium style, with it being possibly the most technological show Miss Gibraltar has ever seen in its 54-year history.

As well as winning the pageant Kayley Mifsud was named Miss Catwalk and Sarah-Jayne Adnett was awarded Miss Friendship – a prize chosen by the other contestants.

On stage after her crowning moment Kayley told the Chronicle she looks forward to her year as Miss Gibraltar.

“I am completely shocked,” she said with a big smile.

“I’m a little bit speechless and I am just loving the moment. I have had an amazing experience. The eight other contestants have been amazing, we have had a lovely group this year and I really was not expecting to take to it but I was just happy competing and going through this whole process with the eight of them.”

“It has really been a lovely experience and I would recommend it to any girl who is thinking about it. It really is incredible.”
