New bus routes fail to consider elderly - GSD

Recent changes to Gibraltar’s bus routes fail to consider the needs of many of its most frequent users, the GSD has said.

In a statement the Opposition also blasted the Ministry responsible for not listening to the concerns that have been raised directly with them.

Shadow Minister for Transport, Trevor Hammond said: "We have been approached by many senior citizens who are frankly fed up with the bus service as it stands.”

“These are people who use the bus on a daily basis, rely on the service and yet when they raise concerns directly with Government, in this instance over the changes to routes, which are now significantly less, convenient for them, they are completely ignored.”

“We saw a similar attitude from Government when the new buses were introduced and many found that they were less user friendly than the previous buses yet their concerns were then largely ignored.”

The GSD has therefore called on the Government to work with representatives from the senior citizens association so as to understand and address this latest issue.

“It is simply not good enough to ignore the needs of those who rely so heavily on this service."
