Parliament considers GFA’s stadium goal

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, has reiterated the Government’s strong support for the Gibraltar Football Association as it pursues a site for the construction of a new national football stadium.

The issue was debated in Parliament last Friday as MPs questioned the viability of Lathbury Barracks as well as other potential sites across Gibraltar.

GSD MP Edwin Reyes initiated the discussion by asking the Government that given the apparent abandonment by the Gibraltar Football Association of the their plans to construct the stadium at the Europa playing fields site, what other alternative sites are being considered.

Mr Picardo, replied that, subject to DPC approval and as previously announced, the proposed move of the new football stadium is to Lathbury Barracks.

However, he also underscored that this is not a Gibraltar Government project but a GFA one.
