RG fires Gun Salute to mark King Charles III’s birthday
The Royal Gibraltar Regiment’s Thomson’s Battery fired a Royal Gun Salute at the Naval Base on Thursday to celebrate King Charles III’s birthday.
The salute was fired from the Naval Base at midday, in tandem with Royal Gun Salutes conducted across the UK.
Nigel Feetham, the Minister for Justice, Trade, and Industry, was the inspecting officer.
The ceremony began with Mr Feetham being formally received by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment’s Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Moore.
Following the inspection and the confirming of the readiness of the gun detachments, Lt ColMoore escorted Mr Feetham to a central vantage point where they were able to view the Gun Salute.
At midday, Gun Position Officer Major Smith called out for the first of the 21 rounds to be fired.
Mr Feetham later signed the Inspecting Officer’s book before being presented with a commemorative shell after commending the Battery for their military service.
“I think it is very important that Gibraltar continues to celebrate the King’s birthday,” Mr Feetham told the Chronicle.
“As part of that celebration we also have to honour those who have given service to our country.”
“My great-grandfather was a soldier in the Duke of Wellington Regiment. His son, andmy grandfather, was a soldier in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.”
“I felt proud and humbled to have inspected the Royal Gun Salute on the occasion of His Majesty’s Birthday and honoured to have delivered a few words to our Soldiers at the Gibraltar Regiment.”
