Seaweed removal

Western Beach was closed yesterday all day due to large accumulations of seaweed. The Department of the Environment is monitoring and analysing the possible reasons for its growth, believing the seaweed could be interfering with other marine life. Western Beach will be closed for the next few days to continue the process of seaweed removal. Over the past few years the Bay of Gibraltar has seen a significant increase in brown algae also known as forkweed. The removal works are being carried out by a private contractor.Pic: Johnny Bugeja
