Six years for ‘professional’ drug dealer

A career drug dealer who claimed police planted cocaine in his car was yesterday jailed for six years.

The 49-year old defendant was found guilty of possession with intent to supply more than seven grams of the Class ‘A’ drug following a short trial at the Supreme Court last week.

He claimed Drug Squad officers planted the drugs in the pouch behind the driver’s seat of his Mercedes CLK when they stopped him in March of last year.

He further accused officers of deliberately contaminating evidence to ensure his DNA was found on the drug wrappers.

But prosecutors labelled the defendant a “professional criminal” and said his defence was “pretty desperate”.
