Tavares is new Bayside headmaster
Michael Tavares, 54, is the new headmaster of Bayside Comprehensive. He takes up his appointment 1 September. Mr Tavares who is currently Deputy Head of Organisation at Bayside takes over from Colin Skinner who retires in September year.
Mr Tavares told the Chronicle he was extremely happy to have got the job and looked forward to the challenges ahead. These, he said, include adapting to the changes in examinations and curriculum and catering for the less academic students who may choose a more vocational path in life. And added he also looked forward to the improved infrastructure of the school.
Having applied for the post some two months ago, he said, the interviews for a new headmaster at the school were carried out just two weeks ago.
Mr Tavares has been a teacher for 28 years. He has taught at Bayside throughout most of his career expect for two years at Sacred Heart.
Mr Tavares graduated in Modern Languages from Leeds University followed by a PGCE at King’s College.
