Three GHA employees arrested in manslaughter investigation
Three employees of the Gibraltar Health Authority have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter as a result of negligence leading to the death of a newborn baby at St Bernard’s Hospital.
This follows an investigation being conducted by the Royal Gibraltar Police following a referral to HM Coroner by the GHA.
The investigation is at a very early stage and no charges have been filed. All three persons are assisting police with enquiries and are currently on police bail.
An RGP spokesman said: “We would like to thank the GHA who are being fully cooperative and transparent in the process.”
“The RGP will not be making any further comment whilst the matter remains under investigation.”
In answer to questions filed by this newspaper the GHA said: “After an internal investigation, the GHA referred the results of that investigation to the Coroner’s Court.”
“In connection with this matter, the GHA has been informed that three of its employees have been arrested by the RGP.”
“The GHA cannot comment on the RGP’s on-going investigation.”
