Tradewise attracts thousands on social media

183 countries followed the daily feed of the 2016 10 day Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival. With strong emphasis on social media platforms, Sports Minister Linares, speaking at the closing ceremony of this year’s event, also spoke of 1.2million page views, 900,000 twitter activity and an audience of 360,000 on the live streaming daily shows.

Mr Linares told the chess community the Government of Gibraltar was proud of the achievements of the Tradewise Chess Festival and its steady growth in numbers and reputation over the years.

The Minister spoke of Gibraltar having forged a distinct and unique identity in the world of chess integrating the best features of an elite event into the “contours of a truly open tournament”.

He believed Gibraltar’s tournament showcased many of the greatest players of our era whilst at the same time providing unrivalled opportunities to young GMs who could pit their skills against the big name players.
