Evans sets himself the challenge of six marathons in ‘De Sables’ event

Gary Evans is running the equivalent of six marathons next month in aid of local charities over six days. His aim is to raise £15,000 for two local charities - Cancer Relief Gibraltar and Gibraltar Alzheimer's and Dementia Society. His challenge the Marathon De Sables in Morocco next month.

Forty-eight nationalities are expected to compete in this 31st edition in the series. So far there are 1,205 registered competitors from the UK, France, Spain, Japan, United States, Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Australia and Morocco. The event starts 10 April.

The challenge over six days will see him carry out six marathons - four marathons (42 kilometres each) and one double marathon (92 kilometres). Described as the toughest foot race on earth the total distance is 251 km – 156 miles.

You may have seen Mr Evans running on the Main Street - from the gates at Casemates to Referendum Gate - over four hours every Saturday - his bib highlighting the charities he is raising money for. He has lived and worked in Gibraltar for the last eight years.
