Cameron cites Brexit uncertainty and urges Gibraltar to vote

Prime Minister David Cameron has highlighted the uncertainty that Gibraltar and expatriate Britons would face should the UK vote to leave the EU.

During the course of a four-hour debate earlier this week, he urged everyone who was eligible to vote in the referendum to do so.

He was responding to a question from Conservative MP Roger Gale, who said thousands of UK taxpayers who were no living abroad were “very frightened indeed” about the prospect of Brexit.

Mr Gale asked the Prime Minister to explain what might happen if Britain voted to leave.

“We often look at free movement in terms of people’s decision to come here, but we also need to think about the many British people who have chosen to work, live or retire in other parts of the EU,” Mr Cameron replied.

“The short answer…is that I can tell those people what it will be like if we stay, but I cannot be absolutely certain about what would happen if we leave.”

“It would depend on a complex and difficult negotiation, and I think there would be a lot of uncertainty.
