Students at Bayside Secondary School are holding a spinathon this week to raise money for local charity Students for Students.

“In total we have 144 students and staff, with 36 per day, getting involved in this event,” said Matthew Porter, Head Boy at Bayside.

“It is our biggest charity event of the year,” he added.

The event started at 9am yesterday morning and will continue until Thursday between school hours. There are six bikes and every rider will cycle for 45 minutes.

Taking part in yesterday’s event were Head Teacher Michael Tavares, Minister for Education Dr John Cortes and some of the corporate sponsors.

The students are aiming to raise £7,500 and are on track to do so, Mr Porter said.

Students for Students is a charity that helps underprivileged students with anything they need, “be it stationery, winter jackets, anything that the organisers, students and part of the faculty feel they could allocate,” he said.

“Everyone deserves a right to an education and this charity acts as a catalyst for that,” he added.
