Father Charlie Azzopardi received Christmas boxes for Nazareth House which have been packed by COPE students at Bayside Secondary school yesterday.

Teachers Chrissie Caetano and Julian Guilliano took the students through the steps of collecting items to fill the boxes and prepare them for forty individuals to receive on Christmas Day.

“This has been a Bayside initiative for a few years and I have taken this on as part of the boys COPE lessons. COPE is a life skills course, part of that course is to do charity work,” said Ms Caetano.

“We have done hours and hours of charity work where the boys have gone to Main Street to get donations from pharmacies, staff members have brought in toiletries, other boys have gone out and raised money and bought the polvornes and chocolates,” she added.

Forty boxes were made, 30 for men and 10 for women.

“This is going to people who don’t have anything. One of the boys said, ‘Miss this is a really nice thing we are doing isn’t it?’,” she said.

Accepting the boxes Fr Azzopardi said, “a big thank you on behalf of those who are going to receive it. We will give it to them on Christmas Day, when we will give them a lunch and a bag and in that bag will be these beautiful boxes in which they will be full of surprise to what they will get.”
